At the Department of SPLAS, you'll explore Spanish along with the languages and cultures of Spain, Portugal, and Latin America through diverse mediums like literature, art, theater, film, music, history, and media. Prior Spanish knowledge isn't required - approximately 50% of our students begin as beginners. With around 350 million speakers globally, Spanish ranks as the world's second most spoken language, with growing communities in the United States, Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, and beyond. Learning Spanish unlocks access to vibrant cultural expressions across music, fashion, sports, cinema, literature, and arts. It also creates career possibilities in business, education, tourism, and media.
