This advanced degree program provides a stimulating chance to explore diverse children's literary works, spanning from illustrated storybooks to novels for young adults. The curriculum analyzes writings from various historical periods, covering timelines, styles, critical approaches, audience considerations, publishing developments, and comprehensive literary study methods, while investigating the distinctive power relationships that emerge when adults write for younger audiences. Although centered on textual analysis, the program currently includes an optional creative writing component.
Applicants should have a good honors degree (at least an upper second or a GPA of at least 3.3). A sample of the candidate's own critical writing (3,000-5,000 words) is also required.
