The School of Dental Science consists of approximately 28 full-time and 60 part-time faculty members, along with 20 research students and 60 students enrolled in taught programs. The Dental Science department is housed within and maintains strong ties to the Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH). The Hospital underwent significant renovations and expansions in 1998, followed by the addition of a cutting-edge research laboratory in 2004.
Recently, the School enhanced its research capabilities, postgraduate offerings, and office spaces. It boasts contemporary clinical facilities and provides an extensive postgraduate dental education curriculum, alongside forward-thinking continuing education opportunities for practicing dentists. Specialized training is available in Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Special Care Dentistry, and Dental Public Health, complemented by consultant training programs across various dental disciplines, as well as Master's and Ph.D. research degrees. Embracing a collaborative approach, the School offers training for dental hygienists, dental nurses, and dental technicians, a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry for general practitioners, a Postgraduate Diploma in Conscious Sedation, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology, in addition to practical courses for public service dentists.
Postgraduate work in Trinity College Dublin is very academically challenging and as a result the University has high academic entry requirements. Applicants will need to hold at least a 2.1 honors degree from an Irish university or equivalent result from a university in another country; a fluent command of the English language. Display a high level of competence in the English language in one of the examination systems recognised by Trinity College Dublin.
