Your program will be conducted entirely in Irish. You'll explore every facet of Modern Irish: from 13th-century Fiannaicht to contemporary works by Máirtín Ó Cadhain and Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill. This course will significantly enhance your spoken and written Irish skills while providing structured instruction in proper language usage. The curriculum includes lectures covering: ancient storytelling traditions, the language's social history, folklore, school poetry, Testimony literature, and all modern literary forms including short stories, plays, novels, memoirs, and verse. As part of your studies, you'll complete a two-month residency in Ireland's Gaeltacht region. A unique aspect of Coláiste na Tríonóide's Modern Irish program is its exclusive offering of a three-year Scottish Gaelic (a' Ghàidhlig) component. Additionally, students may opt for a study period in Scottish Gaelic-speaking communities.
Applicants must have completed a high school qualification equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate. General matriculation requirements include pass grades in English, mathematics and a language other than English. Additional requirements may apply for some courses.
