A fashion buyer's role ranks among the most coveted positions in the industry. Beyond the glitzy perception of globe-trotting professionals handpicking runway collections lies a multifaceted career demanding diverse competencies. These retail strategists bear full responsibility for curating store inventories that drive profitability, requiring constant trend awareness, sharp commercial acumen, and exceptional interpersonal skills.
Blending fashion expertise with financial savvy, buyers determine merchandise selections, brand assortments, and must anticipate customer preferences. While nurturing partnerships with established labels, they continuously scout for fresh talent and emerging styles. In the pre-social media era, discovery primarily occurred through trade exhibitions, professional connections, editorial recommendations, or unsolicited designer submissions. Now, Instagram has become an indispensable platform for identifying and contacting new brands.
The programme is aimed at honours bachelor degree graduates (minimum 2.2 Honours) of universities or similar third level institutions who have a strong desire to succeed in the fashion industry. Holders of equivalent professional qualifications, by examination, will also be considered.
