Horticulture is fundamental in shaping, preserving, and improving the environments we inhabit. Vibrant, pollinator-attracting flower arrangements enhance our bustling tourist destinations. The immaculate golf courses and sports fields where we compete, along with the serene parks, gardens, and cityscapes we enjoy, owe their existence to the expertise of Ireland's skilled horticulturists. Similarly, the consistent availability of fresh produce and blooms throughout the year is made possible by horticultural scientists and growers. Our horticulture graduates contribute at every stage of this process. With its vast scope, the horticulture sector offers diverse career paths, from cultivating plants for retail garden centers and maintaining golf courses to landscape design and commercial crop production.
The SETU Waterford Bachelor of Science in Horticulture is a three-year, full-time program that prepares students for professional horticulture careers. Participants engage with STEM-focused horticulture coursework, complete industry placements, develop business skills, and specialize in two key horticulture disciplines upon graduation. We emphasize real-world exposure and networking, with regular visits to leading horticultural enterprises throughout the three-year program. Understanding our students' preference for practical learning, we maintain an ideal balance between classroom theory, laboratory sessions, and hands-on training to reinforce acquired skills.
