The first-year curriculum is identical across all Computer Science degree programs at MTU's Bishopstown Campus. During this initial year, every student completes the same set of modules, enabling potential transfers to other department programs in year two - provided they satisfy the relevant CAO entry criteria upon enrollment at MTU Bishopstown Campus in Cork. This structure provides significant flexibility for eligible students considering program changes after their first year, allowing them to make better-informed decisions after gaining initial academic experience.
This program equips students with essential IT infrastructure and cybersecurity expertise, built upon five core pillars: Cyber Security, Networking, Cloud Computing Technologies, Automation, and IT Management. The third year includes a work placement starting in January. Placements are arranged nationwide, with particular emphasis on opportunities in Cork and Dublin, though international options are also available. Through the Erasmus program, MTU welcomes European exchange students while many local students pursue studies abroad. The department maintains robust partnerships with institutions in Germany, Sweden, France, and Finland.
