This one-year full-time postgraduate diploma (August to June) equips qualified secondary teachers to establish and oversee school guidance counseling services. Accredited by Ireland's Department of Education (DES) and the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (IGC), it serves as a professional global qualification in Guidance Counselling.
Students attend Maynooth University every Friday while completing a weekly school placement (Monday-Thursday) at an institution different from their workplace. The program commences in late August with compulsory full-day orientation sessions and workshops. Psychometric Testing training occurs during the October mid-term break (specific dates TBD), alongside 2-3 Saturday workshops in the first semester.
Participants must organize their own school placements (within 160 km of Maynooth), working closely with the school's Guidance Counsellor during this practical component.
Applicants will be qualified, registered second-level teachers with an honours Professional Masters in Education (PME) or equivalent qualifications. At least three years experience of teaching and experience in areas such as pastoral care or a school care team are essential.
