The MSc in Robotics and Embedded AI offers specialized education for computing, engineering, and related graduates, focusing on intelligent machine design and control. This interdisciplinary field demands expertise in computing, electronics, and mechanical engineering.

Collaboration, creativity, and practical scientific validation are crucial for excelling in this domain. Each semester features a major team project: the first emphasizes design thinking and robotic theory application, while the second concentrates on system implementation and assessment. The final semester involves an extensive independent research project conducted with industry partners or the university's robotics research team.

This program leverages Maynooth University's established undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Robotics and Intelligent Devices, incorporating advanced fourth-year modules while adding specialized instruction in areas like deep learning, augmented reality, human-robot interaction, robot ethics, and cognitive robotics.

To accommodate diverse academic backgrounds, the program offers two primary tracks:
1. Computing students receive foundational training in control theory, digital signal processing, and robotics engineering.
2. Engineering and robotics students concentrate on AI, deep learning, and computational methods.

The research dissertation offers two options: traditional academic lab-based projects or industry internships with program partners like Eiratech Robotics, Combilift, Intel, Ubotica, Fanuc Robotics, Akara Robotics, and Otherlab.

Graduates will gain comprehensive robotics knowledge and research expertise while developing valuable skills in innovative design and teamwork. Their capabilities will be demonstrated through completion of an advanced research project in robotics and embedded AI.

Qualification Requirements

Candidates should have a minimum 2.1 grade honours (level 8) degree in a cognate discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Maths or their international equivalent.
Candidates with a minimum 2.2 grade honours (level 8) degree in any discipline who can demonstrate at least five years of experience in software, embedded systems, or firmware development will also be considered.
In exceptional circumstances, consideration will be given to candidates who do not hold a primary degree but have at least 10 years of relevant work experience in a software development, embedded systems or firmware role.

Candidates will provide evidence of proficiency in a high-level computer language of their choice.

Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.

IELTS - 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each band; TOEFL internet-based test iBT: 90 with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in all other sections; Pearson Test of English - 63 with no less than 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section; Duolingo English Test (DET) - 120 with no less than 110 in literacy, conversation, and comprehension subscores and no less than 95 in production. (This lower production subscore applies to non-EU applicants only), Cambridge Proficiency Cert. - 176+ on Cambridge English scale with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English.
