You'll pursue your studies with Maynooth University's Department of Education, which focuses on critically examining the foundations, principles, and values that shape educational policies, practices, and theories. This program offers a five-year pathway to secondary teaching certification, shorter than the traditional six-year route. As an undergraduate, you'll complete a four-year Science degree while earning 60 credits in Education. Upon finishing these four years, you'll receive a BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science (with Education), a Level 8 honors degree. For students who don't meet the entry requirements for MH212, there's an alternative six-year teaching pathway. This involves completing the four-year BSc Bachelor of Science (MH201) degree first, then applying for the two-year Professional Master of Education (PME), a full-time Level 9 program that qualifies graduates to teach at secondary level. Admission to the PME is competitive and not automatic for BSc graduates.
