At York, you'll join a close-knit program that cultivates the expertise needed to excel as a mathematics educator. The curriculum features intimate group courses where you'll collaborate directly with faculty and peers.
You'll have opportunities to engage with our dynamic Teaching Stream Faculty on mathematics education research initiatives, gaining practical teaching and research exposure. Past students have contributed to projects including Supplemental Instruction, First-Year Experience initiatives, Flipped Assessments, Partially Populated Lecture Notes, Peer Leadership programs, and Mathematics and Art collaborations.
The program offers an Experiential Education course where you can tutor and facilitate study groups for first-year Mathematics and Statistics courses, then earn credit by reflecting on these teaching experiences.
Degree options include Bachelor of Arts Honours (BA Hons), Bachelor of Science Honours (BSc Hons), Bachelor of Arts Specialized Honours (BA Spec. Hons), or Bachelor of Science Specialized Honours (BA Spec. Hons) in Mathematics for Education. An Honours Minor BABSc in Mathematics for Education is also available.
BA students can select electives in fields such as economics, business, psychology, or philosophy.
BSc students may choose electives in disciplines like physics, astronomy, biology, or chemistry.
Students need to have: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD); Six 4U/4M courses, including ENG4U, NBE4U or FRA4U. Students from other countries should have country specific requirements equivalent to Canada.
