The Health & Society (HESO) Program equips students with analytical tools to examine health and illness as personal experiences and as manifestations of broader social, cultural, and political dynamics across various scales, from individual interactions to global contexts. We emphasize hands-on learning that builds practical skills while fostering sharp critical thinking. The HESO curriculum offers students a holistic perspective on health through its integrated course offerings.
Our committed faculty members contribute varied viewpoints through interdisciplinary methods, incorporating insights from sociology, political science, economics, cultural anthropology, and social history. Program alumni pursue diverse opportunities in policy-making, community initiatives, advocacy for underserved populations, arts-based healing practices, Indigenous and refugee health services, and health journalism.
