Data Science is a rapidly growing discipline that leverages computational power and statistical analysis to derive meaningful insights from information. It has become an essential capability for organizations across all sectors, from private enterprises to public institutions.
As a York University Data Science student, you'll develop expertise in statistical methodologies, programming proficiency, and data interpretation techniques that empower professionals to uncover patterns in datasets. Your coursework will immerse you in handling voluminous, intricate data through specialized case studies spanning industries like commerce, healthcare, and digital platforms, culminating in a hands-on capstone project where you'll apply research methods to real-world industry data.
What distinguishes our program from other Ontario Data Science offerings is our specialized tracks. Students must choose an application-focused concentration area. In addition to core curriculum in statistics, computer science, and advanced mathematics, you'll complete coursework in your chosen specialization from the following fields.

Qualification Requirements
International Baccalaureate (IB) - IB Diploma with passes in six subjects: three passes at the Standard-level and three passes at the Higher-level, or two passes at the Standard-level and four passes at the Higher-level. Minimum IB Diploma point scores of 30 or higher is recommended (scores of 28 will be considered).Minimum 4 is required in each subject unless otherwise indicated. IB Certificate candidates with six subjects are considered for admission, Transfer credit granted for IB courses with Higher-level final grades of 5 or better, depending on the program (maximum 30 credits). Prerequisites listed correspond to Standard-or Higher-level.
General Certificate of Education (GCE) - Minimum of two Advanced-level (A2) passes and three GCSE or IGCSE Ordinary-level (O-level) passes. Minimum average of C is required on Advanced-level and Ordinary-level passes. Grades of E are not considered. Prerequisite courses (minimum of C unless otherwise indicated) must be presented atthe Advanced-level. Transfer credits may be awarded for A level courses completed with a C or better.
