Neuroscience stands as one of the most dynamic and fast-evolving disciplines within the life sciences. At Laurier, we adopt a comprehensive, integrative approach, exploring how behavior, cognition, and the nervous system interact across various species—from fish to humans—at multiple levels, from populations to individual cells, and across timeframes spanning milliseconds to generations.
Our research pursuits are closely linked, centered on understanding the fundamental processes behind: Visual and auditory processing;
Movement coordination, focus, and recall; Communication;
Neurological and psychological conditions, such as addiction, eating disorders, and memory decline with aging;
The biological basis of learning and memory, how learning evolves, social cognition, comparative intelligence, the relationship between learning and motivation, and neural adaptability; as well as Group dynamics and coordinated actions.
