King’s University College’s School of Social Work, which is part of Western University, proudly provides two full-time Master of Social Work (MSW) Direct Practice options. Students can choose between the 1-year Advanced Standing track or the 2-year Foundational program, both featuring coursework and an intensive practicum (450 hours annually). Through partnerships with leading organizations in child welfare, healthcare, education, mental health, and legal systems, our supervised placements equip graduates for leadership positions and specialized practice with diverse populations including individuals, families, groups, and communities.
Social work combines academic study with professional practice focused on improving personal, family, and societal welfare while advancing fairness and justice. Practitioners deliver services ranging from therapeutic counseling to resource coordination across various settings like clinics, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and crisis centers. This training emphasizes understanding how systemic challenges like discrimination, exclusion, and inequality affect those seeking services. The curriculum develops essential competencies in analysis, assessment, policy advocacy, and grassroots initiatives to prepare students for the multifaceted responsibilities of direct social work practice.
