Film Studies explores cinema as one of the most significant, widespread, and impactful media of modern times. Through both practical and theoretical coursework, students investigate film aesthetics, history, philosophy, and production techniques. The program approaches cinema from multiple perspectives—political, sociological, historical, and cultural—equipping students to interpret, critique, and articulate the diverse expressions of film art.
Immerse yourself in cinematic artistry while examining the worldwide and historical forces that established film as a dominant visual medium. Cultivate advanced analytical abilities through modern interdisciplinary approaches. Our film curriculum provides comprehensive exposure to both classic and contemporary works across genres. Students analyze narrative films, documentaries, and experimental works through historical, theoretical, and critical frameworks, with particular focus on national cinema traditions. By studying production methods, distribution channels, exhibition practices, and audience reception, we situate cinema within broader societal and political frameworks.
Students needing Film 2252FG for their Film Studies requirements may replace it with CLC 2700G (formerly Film 2191G).
Film 2200FG and Film 2250FG have been discontinued as module options. Previous completions of these courses will now apply toward elective module credits.
