Earth Sciences explores our planet's composition and systems. This field examines Earth's internal structure and dynamics, including seismic activity, volcanic eruptions, and tectonic movements. It investigates subsurface processes, surface-shaping mechanisms, and surface materials, while studying the relationships between terrestrial processes, climate patterns, and environmental sustainability. The discipline also focuses on locating, extracting, and preserving natural resources (minerals, fossil fuels, soils, and water), Earth's position in our solar system, and the evolution of life.
Western University's Earth Sciences Department fosters a collaborative, vibrant community that blends advanced theoretical and practical research with exceptional teaching and mentorship for both graduate and undergraduate students. Our alumni hold positions in various sectors including industry, academia, and government agencies worldwide.
