Film Studies explores cinema as a dominant and transformative media medium across the 20th and 21st centuries. The program immerses students in film's artistic qualities, historical development, philosophical underpinnings, and technical aspects through both practical and theoretical coursework. Films are analyzed from multiple perspectives—political, social, historical, and cultural—equipping students to interpret, evaluate, and articulate the diverse expressions of cinematic art.
Students critically examine cinematic artistry while investigating the worldwide and historical factors that established film as a powerful visual cultural force. The curriculum fosters advanced analytical abilities informed by modern interdisciplinary research. Our film programs provide comprehensive exposure to both modern masterpieces and timeless classics. Students investigate narrative films, documentaries, and avant-garde works through historical, theoretical, and critical frameworks, with particular focus on international cinema traditions. By studying film production, distribution, exhibition, and audience reception, the program situates cinema within broader societal and political frameworks.
