VIU's post-graduate diploma program in French or Spanish focuses on developing writing, speaking, and reading skills while incorporating cultural studies to enhance understanding of Romance languages. Pursuing this advanced diploma in Latin languages creates opportunities in government, tourism, global commerce, education, and travel sectors. The Post-Degree Diploma in Languages and Culture (Romance Languages) enables Bachelor's degree holders (such as Education graduates) to formally certify their language specialization beyond their undergraduate studies. This credential is granted after completing a Bachelor's degree.
This program is designed for students who have recognized Bachelor's degrees and wish to complete an academic credential equal in scope to a language minor. New students will be placed in language courses according to ability, experience, and previous education. Native French and Spanish speakers should consult with the department regarding exemption from lower-level requirements.
English Language Requirements: A minimum score of TOEFL iBT is 88 with no section under 20, or IELTS is 6.5 with no band under 6.0, CAEL is 70 and Pearson (PTE) 59 no section below 56, or equivalents.
