This program equips students for careers focused on conserving and overseeing Canada's fisheries, wildlife, and park resources. An Advisory Committee comprising officials from federal and provincial agencies like Fisheries and Oceans Canada, BC Parks, and Environment Canada, along with resource user groups, supports the initiative. During their second year's Fall semester, students must complete a two-week off-campus practicum. They're also advised to pursue summer employment with conservation agencies or in roles involving natural resource improvement and assessment between their first and second years.
Students in the RMOT program collaborate with law enforcement agencies to track unlawful activities across central Vancouver Island. These field operations provide practical training in surveillance and reporting procedures for environmental violations. All fieldwork receives careful supervision, with RMOT educators and conservation officers providing necessary guidance and instruction.
