The Psychology Major introduces students to four core areas of contemporary psychology, helping them grasp the fundamental processes behind human cognition and actions. This program also develops essential skills in social research, data analysis, and interpersonal communication. Blending academic knowledge with practical application aligns with the research-practitioner approach, merging foundational studies with real-world implementation. Although this undergraduate program doesn't qualify graduates for professional psychology practice (which demands doctoral-level education and provincial licensure), it serves as strong preparation for numerous related careers and forms the foundation for pursuing advanced professional training. Within VIU's Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, you'll explore the scientific study of human behavior, emotions, and biological/cognitive processes. Offering diverse specializations - from sports and child psychology to addiction studies - our program employs a research-practitioner framework that integrates theoretical learning with hands-on research experience. Earning a Psychology degree equips graduates for either advanced study in psychology or immediate entry into fields like education, social services, healthcare, non-profit work, and other sectors that prize analytical thinking and behavioral insight.
