VIU's Bachelor of Natural Resource Protection program is designed for aspiring environmental guardians looking to transform their dedication to ecosystem preservation, environmental safeguarding, and sustainable resource stewardship into professional practice.
As British Columbia's exclusive offering of its kind, this program features intimate class sizes and instruction from field experts. Participants gain hands-on experience through a four-month industry practicum.
Career opportunities for graduates span diverse fields including wildlife biology and administration, conservation science, rangeland management, environmental law enforcement, education, forest management, and eco-tourism.
This undergraduate program extends the two-year Resource Management Officer Technology (RMOT) diploma, allowing diploma holders to complete their bachelor's degree with two additional years of study. The curriculum is specifically structured to deliver higher qualifications for expanded professional prospects in environmental conservation and protection.
VIU stands as BC's sole provider of this unique degree and one of only two institutions in Western Canada with a similar program. Beyond advanced coursework in resource governance and environmental law, students undertake a four-month field placement during their final fall semester, selecting either an enforcement or resource management organization for their practical experience.
