The Bachelor of Design in Graphic Design program is designed for students aiming to build a professional career in the creative fields of digital and print graphic design. "Graphic Design is a multidisciplinary practice that merges visual creativity with expertise in communication, technology, and business. Graphic Designers excel at structuring and organizing visual content to enhance clarity and engagement. Their services encompass research, budgeting, planning, coordination, project oversight, quality assurance, design evaluation, advertising strategy, and artistic guidance." (Ashworth, Hilary ed. The Business of Graphic Design, A Professional's Handbook. Toronto: Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario, 2001).

Professionals in this field engage in diverse areas such as digital media, web development, packaging, illustration, animation, print production, advertising, marketing design, creative direction, branding, broadcast graphics, corporate communications, information visualization, publishing, education, exhibition design, and signage. The skills acquired—such as creative problem-solving and design thinking—are highly valued across industries and adaptable to various career paths.

This hands-on degree emphasizes practical training and real-world experience to equip students for the dynamic demands of the graphic design and visual communication sector. It also cultivates essential liberal arts competencies, including critical analysis, effective communication, and adaptability. The curriculum fosters an understanding of ethical practice, cultural awareness, and global communication dynamics. Learning formats include lectures, studio sessions, lab work, critiques, collaborative projects, portfolio development, and a final exhibition. Students must maintain strong time-management skills, as coursework mirrors professional workflows—balancing multiple deadlines, team collaborations, research, presentations, and client communication.

The program begins with foundational first-year coursework, followed by second-year studies that refine and specialize these core skills. Advanced courses delve into complex problem-solving, research methodologies, creative innovation, and cultural contexts, including a mandatory industry internship. Electives (18 credits) allow students to tailor their education with career-focused or academic options.

Participants must procure professional-grade laptops, designated software, course materials, and textbooks as outlined by the program.
