The Applied Computer Science program equips students with essential skills across key domains: Programming Basics (object-oriented design, event-driven programming, algorithmic thinking), Data Management (database architecture, information modeling, data storage solutions, SQL), Software Development (requirement analysis, system design, development methodologies, team coordination), System Operations, Network Technologies (web development, networking protocols, cybersecurity), User Interface Design (visual interfaces and interactive systems), and AI Foundations (Machine Learning applications).

The Health Informatics (HI) specialization offers targeted coursework in healthcare data systems, technical frameworks, compliance standards, and legal considerations. Developed in partnership with Manitoba e-Health, this track features advanced classes tailored to healthcare sector demands, covering topics like medical data specifications, regulatory frameworks, clinical coding systems, industry standards, and professional ethics. The HI specialization builds upon the ACS curriculum while allowing students to integrate technology, business, and healthcare knowledge.

Qualification Requirements

The language of instruction at The University of Winnipeg is English. Students must have a level of ability in English that allows them to participate in all aspects of university study, including lectures, reading, writing, and discussion. If English is not the student’s first/primary language and they are not from an English Exempt Country, they must provide supporting documentation to show they meet one of the conditions below. Students will not be admitted until this requirement has been met. English language measures older than two years will not be considered. TOEFL - Achieve a minimum score of 86 with no less than 20 in each component. IELTS - IELTS Academic, Online & UKVI: Minimum overall score of 6.5. Cambridge Assessment English: C1 Advanced & C2 Proficiency - Minimum score 180.
