Founded in 1989, the Chair in German-Canadian Studies was created through funding from both the Secretary of State's Program for Canadian Ethnic Studies and private donors from Winnipeg's German-Canadian community. Operating within the University of Winnipeg's History Department, this academic position fosters education and scholarly work focused on German-Canadian heritage and traditions. It maintains active connections with German-Canadian populations across Winnipeg, Manitoba, and nationwide via public events and digital platforms. The initiative supports high-quality research at local, national, and global levels by organizing academic gatherings, providing funding opportunities, and producing scholarly works.
Representing one of Canada's most significant ethnic communities, German-Canadians reside across the nation with ancestral roots tracing back to Germany, Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, the United States, and other regions.
You are a current high school student studying at a school in another Canadian province, and expect to graduate from grade 12 (or equivalent).
