Our doctoral program provides avenues for in-depth, self-directed research within the biological sciences. Candidates undertake a research initiative under faculty guidance spanning three to five years (with a two-year minimum for those possessing an accredited MSc), concluding with a dissertation defense. Throughout this period, participants complete at least two advanced courses, fulfill teaching assistant responsibilities in undergraduate classes, and engage in seminar discussions. Those transitioning from an MSc program must complete one master's-level course prior to transferring and two additional courses during their doctoral studies.

The Department of Integrative Biology boasts world-renowned faculty members conducting cutting-edge research across biological disciplines, from molecular to ecological scales. We provide both MSc and PhD degrees in Biological Sciences. Situated in Canada, our students frequently investigate regional species from the Great Lakes region, while also conducting studies in Arctic ecosystems, coastal British Columbia, eastern provinces, and international locations ranging from the United States to Central America. Alumni have excelled in academic, corporate, and public sector roles, while others have leveraged their training to enter professional fields like healthcare and veterinary sciences. Detailed research information can be found on our Research page and faculty profiles.
