The Master of Taxation (MTax) program is a cutting-edge graduate initiative that bridges learning across various disciplines, integrating course content, program-wide knowledge, and practical work experience. Employing a specialized educational approach, it cultivates distinctive capabilities that set our graduates apart as sought-after experts in Canada's tax sector. Delivered by the University of Waterloo with classes conducted in downtown Toronto, this pioneering program equips graduates with comprehensive tax expertise spanning policy analysis, research methodologies, legal interpretation, estate planning, corporate structuring, and risk assessment. The curriculum blends technical mastery with essential professional skills such as effective communication, analytical reasoning, ethical practice, lifelong learning, and strategic problem-solving for business and client relationships. Our diverse student body comprises both recent Canadian business graduates aspiring to tax careers and experienced professionals like accountants, attorneys, and tax specialists seeking to enhance or formalize their taxation knowledge. Available in full-time and part-time formats, the program is specially designed to accommodate the varied requirements of our participants.

Note- Full-time students complete four courses per term, engage in two 4-month work placements, and finish the program within 20 months

Qualification Requirements

Students from a wide variety of backgrounds are welcome.
Successful completion of a four-year Honours Degree, or equivalent, with at least a 75% average is required or a three-year Degree, or equivalent, with at least a 75% average, 8 years of Canadian tax-related work experience showing career advancement and a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score of at least 550, or equivalent Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score using ETS's GRE Comparison Table for Business Schools.
A one page statement detailing your interest in the Master of Taxation program.
Students will be assessed by an Admissions Committee. Students who are lacking the necessary fundamentals of Canadian income taxation and accounting to begin work in the tax field will be required to successfully complete TAX 600 Introductory Tax and Accounting for MTax Students, a course covering these areas.
An interview may also be required
GMAT may be required.
