Renowned globally for its excellence in education, scholarship, and research, the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science draws outstanding students worldwide to learn and collaborate with our distinguished faculty. Engage in cutting-edge research across diverse domains alongside our world-class academics. Our research encompasses all facets of computer science, ranging from fundamental studies in systems, theory, and programming languages to innovative work in human-computer interaction, DNA computing, quantum computing, and both theoretical and practical machine learning. Graduate students benefit from: Dedicated research facilities. Opportunities to publish in leading academic venues. Platforms to present at top-tier conferences among peers, industry professionals, and field experts. You'll enjoy the freedom to focus on your chosen research area under faculty guidance or complete eight courses for your degree through the coursework pathway.
The Artificial Intelligence Group explores numerous AI disciplines, investigating intelligent interaction models, multi-agent systems, natural language processing, constraint programming, computer vision, decision-making algorithms, and machine learning. Our work combines natural language processing with user modeling to enhance human-computer interfaces, creating systems that support collaborative interaction. Applications span intelligent assistants, e-commerce platforms, and recommendation engines. We examine how computational constraints affect strategic behavior in multi-agent environments and develop solutions for practical challenges in mechanism design and game theory. Our research also focuses on cooperative agent systems, particularly communication and coordination methods for electronic markets and adaptive autonomy systems. Additionally, we study trust dynamics, reputation systems, and incentive structures within multi-agent frameworks, including social network applications.
