The MA program aims to expand upon the knowledge students gained in their BA studies. Following a concise set of core courses, students can explore their personal academic interests through offerings from German Applied Linguistics, Literature and Film Studies specialists, and related departments across the University. MA candidates have opportunities to co-instruct undergraduate classes, undergo teaching preparation, and fulfill a university teaching certification (Fundamentals in University Teaching milestone) while enrolled in the Germanic and Slavic Studies Department. The department provides degree programs in German and Russian (BA, MA, PhD) along with Croatian and Dutch language courses. Additionally, we collaborate with Spanish and Latin American Studies to offer a Cultural Identities minor. As host to one of Canada's most extensive and varied German programs, our department serves as a key hub for promoting German and Slavic cultural studies nationwide. Faculty specialize in areas including second language education, applied linguistics, and literary/film/cultural research.
