The Kinesiology program focuses on the scientific examination of human motion to enhance wellness and avoid disease and harm. This curriculum establishes a strong base in anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, nutrition, and neuroscience, supplemented by biology, chemistry, and physics classes from the Science department. Emphasizing hands-on learning, students build skills through diverse lab sessions, specialized facilities, practical assignments, and advanced practicums covering sports injury evaluation, cardiac rehab, and movement analysis. As part of one of North America's most extensive kinesiology departments, learners can select specialized electives and develop expertise in fields like gait studies, high-altitude and aviation physiology, motor skill development, or spinal condition management. Assist an aspiring Olympian in recovering from ligament damage. Reduce occupational hazards by refining workplace ergonomics. Improve daily living for children with cerebral palsy. Master techniques to prevent and address movement-related health issues – with the co-op option providing 20 months of paid professional experience. Beyond core science courses in biomechanics, neuroscience, and physiology, students can pick from four kinesiology-focused minors or numerous university-wide minor options. The program also offers preparatory coursework for healthcare careers like medicine and physical therapy.
