University life offers the wonderful opportunity to expand your perspectives, uncover fresh passions, and engage in diverse extracurricular pursuits. The Liberal Studies program provides this flexibility. Known as liberal arts degrees elsewhere, Liberal Studies enables you to investigate various disciplines across humanities, social sciences, languages and cultures, and creative arts – while also selecting courses from Waterloo's other faculties. You can specialize your degree with one or more minors, or maintain a broad, general approach. (If you develop a deep interest in a particular field, you can transition to a major at any stage.) Academic advisors are available to assist with degree planning and course selection. Enhance your education further through Waterloo's EDGE (experiential learning) certificate, Global Experience Certificate programs, or by pursuing Liberal Studies within the Honours Arts and Business degree. Transfer-friendly policy. The Liberal Studies program accepts up to 50% of courses from other programs or as transfer credits from previous education.
Note: Honours Liberal Studies cannot be combined with other Arts majors, but can be paired with numerous honours majors from other faculties (Joint Honours).
