This program will equip you to make a difference in a field that impacts people's lives. You can specialize in either adult education with community involvement or educational administration and leadership. This Master of Arts program requires a thesis, so you should come prepared with a research question and preliminary literature review. Alternatively, we provide a project-based Master of Education option. Learning and education span our entire lives and occur in diverse settings. Leadership and education manifest in both structured environments and through informal, everyday experiences. These interconnected, multidisciplinary fields influence every aspect of our society.
Through this Leadership Studies program, students will examine how leaders and educators operate in various contexts - formal, informal, and non-traditional - and explore strategies for driving meaningful change in today's world. The curriculum addresses critical questions: How can leaders and educators tackle urgent social, gender, and environmental challenges? What approaches can we use to decolonize our thinking and institutions? How do we implement decisions that create positive transformation in educational, professional, and community settings?
The program explores diverse topics ranging from policy development at local and international levels to innovative approaches like arts-based and anti-oppressive methodologies. It examines community participation, cultural leadership, organizational theory, and how global economic and political systems shape our daily experiences. Our faculty incorporates Indigenous knowledge, gender studies, and diverse local and global viewpoints into their teaching while maintaining international research collaborations.
