Become part of a new wave of linguistic specialists driving Indigenous language preservation initiatives. This program prepares you as a language researcher qualified to guide academic institutions and local communities. Discover methods to assist in the restoration, recovery, and sustainability of Indigenous languages.
The MA program requires a thesis, while we provide a project-focused MEd alternative. Both options follow a biennial cohort structure.
Instruction occurs primarily online with intensive on-campus sessions at UVic. The schedule includes roughly 3 weeks of classes during the initial summer, followed by multiple 5-8 day intensive sessions annually.
UVic's unique Master's in Indigenous Language Revitalization (MILR) represents Canada's sole graduate program of this nature, collaboratively offered by the Humanities and Education faculties.

advancing higher education initiatives focused on Indigenous language preservation and revival.
