This program integrates multidisciplinary theories with hands-on learning to shape your education. You'll develop specialized skills through customized coursework and real-world applications aligned with your objectives. The program culminates with either a research thesis or a final capstone project.Instruction is delivered mostly online, with a required three-week summer intensive.The Master's in Child, Youth, Family & Community Studies can contribute toward provincial or national counseling certification requirements.Upon completing the MA program, graduates will possess the ability to:Apply decolonial, critical, and justice-focused frameworks to research, practice, and leadership across various local, national, and international settings to enhance wellbeing for children, youth, families, and communitiesDemonstrate dedication to Indigenous sovereignty and wellbeing worldwide, with particular obligations to local First Nations communitiesUtilize ethical, asset-based, relationship-centered methods when engaging with diverse populations, while addressing historical and ongoing systemic barriers related to race, gender, sexuality, class, ability, and immigration status, among other factorsExhibit skills in adaptive leadership, advocacy, and systemic transformation, preparing for management positions across human service sectors serving young people and families (including governmental, private, nonprofit, and community organizations)Understand and implement varied research techniques, methodologies, and knowledge dissemination strategies that honor diverse contexts, epistemologies, and research traditions
