The Medical Science Master's and PhD programs provide diverse opportunities in basic sciences, clinical research, and population health studies. Working closely with faculty advisors, students gain specialized education and access to Toronto's top-tier interdisciplinary research environment. These intensive MSc and PhD programs focus primarily on practical research experience over traditional coursework. The Institute of Medical Science (IMS) serves as the premier graduate destination for physicians pursuing careers as clinician-researchers, with alumni securing academic and healthcare leadership roles across universities, government agencies, and private sector organizations. IMS collaborates with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons through its Clinical Investigator Program (CIP).
At the Institute of Medical Science, we provide dynamic MSc and PhD programs spanning fundamental sciences, clinical research, and public health studies. Guided by our distinguished faculty, you'll develop specialized expertise while working with Toronto's most advanced cross-disciplinary research teams. Our graduates hold influential positions as scholars and healthcare leaders in academic institutions, government bodies, and corporate enterprises. Biomedical Communication represents a unique interdisciplinary field combining art, science, medicine, and information design. Canada's only program of its kind, the MSc in Biomedical Communication (MScBMC) ranks among just four globally accredited programs in this specialty. Through its two-year curriculum, the MScBMC program trains students to develop and assess various visual communication tools, from medical illustrations and interactive media to animations and virtual reality simulations.
