The Medical Science Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy programs provide diverse opportunities in basic sciences, clinical sciences, and population health research. Working closely with faculty mentors, students gain specialized training and access to Toronto's leading multidisciplinary research environment. These full-time MSc and PhD programs focus primarily on practical research experience rather than classroom instruction. The Institute of Medical Science (IMS) serves as the premier graduate destination for MDs pursuing careers as clinician investigators, with alumni securing academic and healthcare leadership roles across universities, government agencies, and private industry. IMS also participates in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Clinical Investigator Program (CIP).
Our Institute provides dynamic MSc and PhD programs spanning fundamental sciences, clinical research, and population health studies. With guidance from distinguished faculty, you'll experience Toronto's most advanced interdisciplinary research while preparing for influential careers in academia, healthcare, and policy. Biomedical Communication represents a unique interdisciplinary field combining art, science, medicine, and communication. Canada's only program of its kind, the Master of Science in Biomedical Communication (MScBMC) is among just four globally accredited programs, offering a two-year curriculum focused on developing medical visualization tools including illustrations, digital media, animations, and virtual simulations.
