The Department of Immunology provides graduate studies culminating in Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees across diverse immunological fields. These areas encompass lymphocyte development mechanisms, T-cell/B-cell receptor functions, cellular interactions, growth factor receptors, cytokine systems, antigen handling, lymphocyte signaling pathways, V(D)J recombination processes, immune tolerance mechanisms, programmed cell death, genetically modified models, vaccine development strategies, autoimmune disorders, HIV/AIDS research, diabetes studies, and transplant immunology. The department serves as a collaborative hub for researchers across University of Toronto facilities, offering cross-disciplinary immunological training. Faculty and students are based at multiple locations including the Medical Sciences Building, Ontario Cancer Institute, and research institutes affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children, and Sunnybrook Hospital.
The Applied Immunology MSc program is a course-based graduate option focused on developing expertise in designing, executing, and assessing immunological testing methods for immune response evaluation. Degree requirements include completing designated coursework along with a significant research component.
