The Department of Cell and Systems Biology (CSB) provides both Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree programs. CSB is dedicated to delivering outstanding graduate education that prepares students in Cell, Molecular, and Systems Biology through rigorous training and mentorship. The department upholds this mission by fostering a top-tier research and learning environment that produces globally recognized graduate education and research. Given the interdisciplinary focus of CSB's programs, students gain exposure to diverse research areas and methodologies as a core part of their studies. CSB graduate students utilize advanced facilities and innovative techniques, engaging in fields such as functional genomics, genetics, metabolomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, computational biology, cell biology, developmental biology, molecular biology, and physiology.
The CSB MSc program prepares graduates for careers in education, business, and policy, where science-driven decision-making and scientific communication are increasingly vital, especially in growing knowledge-based economies worldwide. This program develops scientists capable of meeting these needs by equipping them with skills in data generation, analysis, evaluation, and communication—preparing them for advanced academic pursuits or professional roles requiring these competencies.
An appropriate bachelor's degree with high academic standing from a recognized university, with a B+ (or equivalent) average in the final year of the bachelor's program, and a mid-B overall average in the previous year of study.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS):
Required score: 7.0 (Academic) with at least 6.5 for each component.
Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT) Including Writing and Speaking Sections:
Overall score: 93; Writing: 22; Speaking: 22
Academic English Level 60: Required score: B
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Online:
Required score: 70 minimum total with at least 60 in each part.
The Certificate of Proficiency in English (COPE):
Required score: 76 minimum total with at least 22 in each component and 32 in writing
Cambridge Assessment English:
Required score: minimum 185 overall with at least 176 in each component.
