The Master of Information (MI) program offers students the opportunity to study information and knowledge management in its full scope, complexity, and diversity. Students can select from five specialized tracks: Library & Information Science, Archives & Records Management, Human-Centered Data Science, User Experience Design, or Information Systems & Design. Additionally, the Faculty of Information features a dual-degree option, enabling simultaneous enrollment in both the Master of Information and Master of Museum Studies programs. This cutting-edge interdisciplinary curriculum examines information and knowledge management from multiple perspectives. MI alumni emerge as sought-after professionals equipped to drive advancements in information architecture, categorization, storage, retrieval, distribution, preservation, and governance. Their comprehensive grasp of societal needs opens doors to career paths in every industry and sector.
Knowledge and Information Specialists oversee how information is accessed, structured, processed, utilized, and tracked within organizations or communities. They design and deploy systems that enable seamless knowledge exchange. For instance, Ontario's open data program enhances transparency by providing public and corporate access to government datasets, fostering innovation and needed services. In healthcare, the effective management of digital medical records has grown critically important for both patients and medical professionals.
