The Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BME) provides research facilities in biomedical engineering and delivers three graduate programs: the Master of Applied Science (MASc), Master of Engineering (MEng), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Biomedical engineering combines engineering with biological and medical sciences. This interdisciplinary field applies engineering principles, physical sciences, and mathematics to address challenges in medicine and life sciences. It involves studying biological systems, improving or replacing them, designing measurement tools for physiological data, creating medical instruments and materials, and developing artificial organs and medical devices. Most of the institute's projects span multiple disciplines. The MEng in Biomedical Engineering emphasizes designing and bringing biomedical devices to market. Students tackle real-world design problems and gain practical skills to meet industry needs through coursework and hands-on training.
