The University of Toronto's English Department introduced its Master of Arts in Creative Writing (MA CRW) program during the 2004-05 academic year. This initiative combines the university's distinguished faculty with Toronto's thriving literary scene. Students benefit from exposure to world-renowned authors, diverse cultural influences, and a dynamic publishing sector that fosters emerging voices. The program leverages the English Department's academic assets, spanning historical research, scholarly traditions, cross-disciplinary partnerships, global literature specialization, and faculty conducting cutting-edge research on culture, identity, and society. Participants gain access to premier library resources, including the Fisher Rare Book Library's archival holdings. While primarily training students for writing professions, the program also provides a foundation for advanced academic pursuits.
