The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering maintains its position as Canada's premier institution in its field and ranks within the global top 15 according to numerous ranking bodies. Our faculty boasts 39 IEEE Fellows, 6 Optical Society Fellows, 10 Royal Society of Canada Fellows, and 18 Canadian Academy of Engineering Fellows. In 2020, ECE accounted for over 40% of all University of Toronto Engineering invention disclosures, filing 142 patents. Through partnerships with leading companies like Google, Fujitsu, Ericsson, and LG, our students actively participate in the department's legacy of pioneering innovations, patents, and startup ventures.
Graduate students in our ECE program are recognized for their creative solutions, with students contributing to about 90% of annual department inventions. Many receive prestigious awards from NSERC, CIHR, and other organizations. Last year, research-focused students secured over $12.5 million in funding, while our favorable 8:1 student-to-faculty ratio fosters strong mentorship connections. Graduates emerge prepared for diverse careers spanning engineering, business, healthcare, law, and beyond.
The MASc program combines coursework with intensive research under faculty guidance, designed to be completed with a thesis defense within two years. Students receive departmental and advisor funding while making satisfactory progress, with many publishing their findings in academic journals and conferences.
An appropriate bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university.

Academic English Level 60: Required score: B
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Online: Required score: 70 minimum total with at least 60 in each part.
The Certificate of Proficiency in English (COPE): Required score: 76 minimum total with at least 22 in each component and 32 in writing
Cambridge Assessment English: Required score: minimum 185 overall with at least 176 in each component.
