Psychology explores the reasons behind human thoughts and behaviors, aiming to enhance our understanding of the human experience. Using scientific methods and diverse approaches, psychological research investigates the intricate factors shaping individuals. Our programs benefit students entering various fields (e.g., human resources, marketing, social services), those pursuing advanced degrees in psychological research (e.g., Ph.D. in Clinical or Experimental Psychology), candidates for professional programs (e.g., Master's in Counselling Psychology, Public Health, or Social Work), and those considering other professional paths (e.g., law, business).
Psychology encompasses numerous specializations, many available at UTSC through research and coursework: Social Psychology (sociocultural impacts, PSY 10-series), Developmental Psychology (lifespan changes, PSY 20-series), Clinical Psychology (mental health assessment and treatment, PSY 30-series), Cognitive Neuroscience (biological basis of cognition, PSY 50-series), and Behavioural Neuroscience (physiological and genetic behavior influences, PSY 60-series). These offerings work alongside foundational skill courses (e.g., research methods, statistics, scientific writing) outside this numbering system.
The Psychology Specialist (Co-op) Program integrates academic learning with paid work placements across various sectors. This Work Integrated Learning (WIL) initiative helps students build both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for immediate employment or future graduate studies in psychology-related fields.
Alongside academic coursework, participants must fulfill additional Arts & Science Co-op Work Term and Course requirements to complete the program.
