Physics serves as the foundation for comprehending the natural world. It examines everything from individual physical entities to cosmic structures, covering phenomena as minute as subatomic particles and as vast as Earth's climate systems. The discipline equips students with versatile analytical methods applicable across numerous scientific domains.
Learners can opt for specialized Physics tracks or combine Physics with other disciplines like Philosophy and various sciences. The Physics Major and Minor options allow integration with virtually any academic program at the University. Students also gain hands-on experience through original research projects and independent study opportunities for academic credit.
Physics education opens diverse career pathways. While teaching and research remain classic options, physics knowledge proves valuable in medicine, law, environmental sciences, and technology-related fields. The analytical skills developed through physics training enable graduates to address complex societal challenges, from technological impacts to climate issues.
The Physics Specialist Program provides rigorous training across all physics disciplines, allowing students to focus on experimental, theoretical, or applied aspects. Advanced elective courses in relativity, quantum optics, and geophysics prepare undergraduates for graduate-level studies while showcasing faculty research expertise.
The Physics Major offers greater flexibility, complementing studies in mathematics, computer science, or life sciences. Prospective students should consult with Physics Department advisors and relevant faculty to design their optimal academic path.
Students from different countries should have qualifications equivalent to Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Six 4U/M courses, including:
