Chemical Physics focuses on understanding molecular and bulk system structures and dynamics through atomic and molecular interactions. Key areas of study encompass reaction kinetics, spectroscopic analysis, molecular process manipulation via optical methods, nanoscience, surface chemistry, theoretical and experimental investigations of soft matter (including polymers, liquids, and biological systems), along with quantum control and information sciences. The Chemical Physics curriculum equips students with comprehensive physical chemistry knowledge, preparing them for careers in both experimental and theoretical physical sciences across academic institutions or corporate research sectors.
Program participants may opt to join the Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) track. Applications for ASIP are accepted after completing Year 1 (for Year 2 admission) or Year 2 (for Year 3 admission beginning Fall 2024). Complete ASIP information regarding eligibility, selection criteria, and registration can be found in the Arts & Science Academic Calendar's ASIP section. Note that most students join ASIP at the start of Year 2, with limited availability for Year 3 entry. Applicants seeking Year 3 admission must secure acceptance into the Chemical Physics Specialist program during the summer following Year 2.
