Physics spans from its roots in natural philosophy to the exploration of intricate biological systems. By merging mathematical rigor with meticulous experimentation, it uncovers the fundamental principles linking diverse natural phenomena. Many advancements in contemporary science and technology stem from foundational physics principles. Physicists examine any system that can be experimentally measured and mathematically modeled. At U of T Mississauga, physicists collaborate extensively with astronomers, biologists, chemists, geologists, and other researchers to tackle interdisciplinary challenges.
Physics students cultivate adaptable skills in experimentation, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and modeling. Our Biophysics Specialist Program integrates core coursework in physics, mathematics, chemistry, and biology with specialized biophysics studies. This program addresses the rising need for physics-trained professionals in biological and medical fields. We also provide Physics Major and Minor options. Pairing physics with another major significantly strengthens interdisciplinary studies. Beyond natural sciences and mathematics, combining physics with quantitative fields like computer science, finance, or economics proves particularly valuable. A physics education, with its focus on quantitative analysis, expands career prospects in research, education, healthcare, biotechnology, environmental sectors, industrial R&D, electronics, engineering, computing, and finance.
