No aspect of humanity falls outside anthropology's scope. Among all fields studying humankind, anthropology uniquely aims to comprehend the complete spectrum of human life—across geographical regions and evolutionary periods—through comprehensive comparative analysis.
Our curriculum emphasizes anthropology's four core branches: biological, archaeological, sociocultural, and linguistic studies. We also excel in forensic and medical anthropology specialties. Faculty research covers diverse subjects detailed at: https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/anthropology/research/research-interests
Despite our varied research focuses, we share a unifying mission: to deepen understanding of human identity and origins. All department members actively share anthropological insights through teaching, research, publications, and public engagement. As educators, we equip anthropology students with foundational knowledge across all subdisciplines, cultivating intellectually curious graduates proficient in the methodologies, theories, and knowledge bases of their chosen anthropological specialties.
