The Department for the Study of Religion (DSR) serves as a dynamic hub for academic exploration, where students examine various religious and spiritual traditions through historical, cultural, political, and textual lenses. Situated in one of the world's most religiously and culturally diverse cities, our undergraduate programs draw students from all backgrounds who are eager to explore religion through scholarly inquiry. Our curriculum spans multiple faiths—Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Indigenous spiritual practices, Islam, and Judaism—while also addressing profound human concerns like happiness, creation stories, suffering, and relationships. Whether students come from religious backgrounds or none at all, our inclusive classrooms welcome everyone. Through our programs, students develop critical thinking, writing proficiency, and language skills while investigating religion's intersections with power, creativity, and social dynamics like gender, sexuality, and race. Many DSR undergraduates pair religion studies with complementary disciplines such as environmental science, political science, computer science, gender studies, or interdisciplinary fields like international relations and cognitive science.
