The Specialist (Joint) Program in Journalism emphasizes developing analytical thinking, investigative abilities, writing proficiency, and communication competencies essential for analyzing news media, journalism, and societal matters. Along with fulfilling the Honours B.A. prerequisites, participants in this joint program will earn an Ontario Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Journalism from Centennial College. This unique collaborative program trains students to present stories comprehensively across all modern media platforms. Upon completion, graduates possess a professional portfolio showcasing their work with community newspapers, digital publications, and web radio, preparing them for media careers or communications roles in various sectors.
Secondary school applicants may enroll directly in the Specialist (Joint) Program in Journalism. Current UTSC students can declare this program after their first year, provided they've completed the necessary JOUA-level coursework. Participants must complete three consecutive terms (Fall, Winter, and Summer) at Centennial College's Story Arts Centre during their third undergraduate year. While 50% constitutes passing at UTSC, students must achieve at least 60% in all Centennial courses to progress. Those scoring between 50-60% must retake the course for additional credit. Please note that attending Centennial College involves modest supplementary fees during the relevant terms.
