Historians and philosophers of science explore profound inquiries about knowledge production and technological impact. Philosophy of science courses analyze scientific frameworks, methodologies, and their unique claims to truth. Meanwhile, philosophy of technology courses investigate ethical dilemmas and foundational principles of emerging technologies, challenging us to reconsider human identity, equity, and governance. Historical studies of science and technology contextualize innovations within cultural, economic, and political landscapes, illuminating connections to critical issues like racial justice, gender equity, global power dynamics, and environmental stewardship. Through HPS coursework, students gain deeper scientific literacy, develop analytical perspectives on science's societal influence across time, and refine abilities in research, discourse, and written expression.
Graduates specializing in History and Philosophy of Science and Technology acquire versatile expertise applicable to careers requiring nuanced comprehension of scientific progress, technological change, their societal intersections, and their dialogue with humanistic disciplines.
